🔴Avenal Two Homes Damaged in Early Saturday Morning Fire

AVENAL, — Early this morning Two homes were damaged in a fire early Saturday morning that began at an abandoned property and quickly spread to neighboring structures, displacing six local residents.

According to preliminary reports, the fire started in the abandoned homes backyard area in garage, on the 525 block of Kern Street.

Flames quickly spread to the neighboring occupied home at 529 Kern St, causing severe structural damage.

The neighboring house 529 was occupied at the time by a family of six, including two adult males, two adult females, and two teenagers.

Authorities say everyone was safely evacuated and no injuries were reported.

Officials indicated that the residence is expected to be a total loss.

Multiple agencies responded to the scene, Avenal Police Department, including Kings County Fire Department Station 12, along with mutual aid units, the Kings County Office of Emergency Services, and Fresno County Fire.

Additional assistance was provided by fire personnel from Avenal State Prison (ASP) / California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) and Cal Fire.

Firefighters worked together to evacuate nearby residents, contain the flames, and prevent the fire from spreading further.

Overhaul operations are currently underway.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with fire investigators currently on scene.

Local officials say the City is assisting the displaced family with temporary shelter at a city facility, and the American Red Cross has been contacted to help provide additional support.

Meanwhile, members of the Avenal community have already begun mobilizing to help the family. Residents, friends, and community groups have gathered at the Avenal Veterans Hall to collect donations such as food, blankets, clothing, and other essential supplies.
